The difference between low and high time individuals? One word sums it up in my view, 'airmanship'. It will only only come with experience, doesn't matter how academically gifted you are, and cannot be taught in the classroom.
SPIFR, airline ops, whatever... airmanship is what makes the majority, (not all, because some will miss out no matter how long they fly), of high time pilots a better option for their colleagues and give them the edge as an operator.
