It seems that there are really only a couple of real estate agents who seem to have a monopoly on the island, and being the synic I am I trust no one, especially if there is money involved. This is all very premature knowing the odds of getting all the way through the interview and medical process, but I like to have as many ducks in a row as possible, espically if it means certain poverty for a few years

I do appreciate all the input I can get. Thanks for your time.
Also, March interviews are being scheduled now for JALways.
Oh man, there are not a lot of affordable parts of the island of Oahu, but it's all relative. If you have a house to sell and have some equity, you obviously will have a much easier time, plus it depends on type of house, age, etc., that you want.
Waikiki and Hawaii Kai are expensive. Waikiki sucks, unless you enjoy traffic and fat white tourists. Hawaii Kai is nice. For better rates, check out Waipahu, Waikele, Ewa Beach, Kapolei, and Mililani. The best recommendation is to come here and look around. Few real estate agents will spend much time with you unless you're here.
Good luck!
