Never heard of that one before either, have just checked MAT 1 and 2 can't find any reference to 5 miles
MATS 1 Section 3 10.4.2
Aircraft should be vectored to close the intermediate and final approach tracks not less than 5 miles from touchdown.
I believe it is changing with Amendment 68 to be established by 5 miles.
