are using OpenOffice 2.0 on half our workstations. We only deploy MS Office on selected desktops where the user actually needs the fancier capabilities of Word, Excel, Access or Powerpoint. The majority of desktop users only write memos or spreadsheets with a single worksheet and don't need the full features of desktop publishing or multi-worksheet spreadsheets. In fact, quite a few use mainly specialist applications, communicate via e-mail rather than memo and only need file readers to open e-mail attachments.
If you want to really put the wind up a Microshaft "tax collector", tell him you're thinking of running all your servers on Linux...
