Me too! RAF Leuchars '72(ish) - I remember my instructor pulling a SUDDEN VERY SHARP TURN to get out of the way of a Phantom scrambled from the QRA shed and seeing the beast as it went by us, at VERY close range - awsome!
We'd only just taken off, still in the climb on runway track. We got to see the photo's of the Bear the next day- intercepted somewhere over Scandinavia I think. (Wasn't you in the Phantom, was it BEagle?).
Very fond memories of the Chippie, would love to fly in one again!
