Re: Has the Novelty worn off yet?
I'm in my 26th year employed as a pilot.
First 5 years in Alaska. Most fun I've had in an airplane. Also scary sometimes.
Next spent 13.5 years at US regionals. Includes 5000 hours hopscotching around in a Metro.
Last 7.5 years flying night freight. Not much scenery to look at.
Sometimes there's stuff going on at home and I wish I didn't have to leave for a week.
I haven't gotten rich but I've always had a paycheck and always paid my bills.
Yeah, it's a job, but it's been a pretty good job for me. I look around and don't see anything else that I'd rather do.
I still love to fly the airplane. It's like being married to a good woman for a long time. It's not the thrill of new love but you know her well and you still really enjoy her company.
I've got a few years left and I'm still excited about the prospect of flying a widebody. And I want to fly a DC-3.
I also want to buy a sailboat!
