Without looking it up I thought gerund was simply a verb, but you use it in the sense of what the good nuns and the perverted Christian Brothers taught me to call a verbal noun.
Now let's see; realise, recognise, demonise, analyse; Hmm, you may be right there. Though sympathise doesn't look all that flash, and hypothesise looks awful.
