The New Piper Aircraft, Inc. is seeking an experienced Aerodynamics/FTE Senior Engineer at their location in Vero Beach, Florida.
SUMMARY:
The successful candidate will provide technical support for aircraft development and certification, assure that a proper liaison is established and maintained between the Flight Test Department, Quality Assurance, and the Experimental hangar, and assure that all experimental aircraft records are properly maintained. Provide assistance in preparing Flight Test Plans, Type Inspection Authorizations (TIA), Type Inspection Reports (TIR), and Pilot Operating Handbooks (POH).
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Coordinate test program activities under direction of Manager of Test Operations. Research upcoming flight-tests requirements to ensure the required test hardware/software, and instrumentation is on hand. Assist in preparation of Risk Management procedures – Test Hazard Assessment Work Sheet, Safety Review Board, and Fight Readiness Review under direction of Lead DOA Aerodynamics/Flight Test. Ensure aircraft is correctly instrumented and configured for testing. Program / update software programs for various data acquisition systems. Prepare data sheets and other forms to record results of in-flight testing. Record in-flight data and operate data acquisition system during flight tests. Set up and maintain various flight test records and associated programs and database. Ensure data calibration/data accuracy, and validity of data. Assist in preparation of Flight Test Plans, Type Inspection Authorizations (TIA), Type Inspection Reports (TIR), and Pilot Operating Handbooks (POH). Reduce flight test data to standard day engineering units for distribution to other engineering disciplines. Read and understand the requirements of Federal Aviation Regulation (FAR) 23 for certification of aircraft. Attend classes / seminars to keep abreast of flight-test practices. Stay abreast of the FAA/JAA regulations and policies as they pertain to flight tests to assure compliance with applicable FAR. Possible requirement to pilot production and experimental aircraft in support of company objectives if piloting experience level and proper aircraft ratings meet Flight Operations Policy and Procedures criteria. Attend various safety courses to enhance the safety record of Engineering Flight Test. Perform other related duties as required.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor degree in mechanical or aeronautical engineering discipline with continued advanced training in flight test engineering; a minimum of four years experience as a flight test engineer, or equivalent combination of education and experience. FAA pilot certificate desirable. Knowledge of FORTRAN, VBA, Lab View and computer related systems, experience with aircraft and data acquisition systems, radio communications, and safety devices that relate to flight test is necessary to perform the duties of this position.
