CPL cross country

Hi, just started my ATPL theory (nightmare!), but as I already have my PPL I was wondering if there is any time limit on when you can do the 300NM qualifying cross country for the CPL flying course? I was thinking that I would do the cross country (when I can spontaneously take advantage of a good weather day) rather than waiting to do it during or after the CPL training. Do I have to have passed the ATPL theory exams or started the CPL training BEFORE I can do my cross country, for it to be recognised as part of the CPL training? I'm guessing there must be some kind of time limit (there usually is!!).

Also, if anyone has discovered any particularly great places to go during their cross country, please let me know! (A bit of inspiration is alway handy).

Many thanks.
