Denver is at 5,500 feet elevation but remember this is a winter charter series we are talking about. Wonder how practical it would be departing on a Colorado summer afternoon ?

Certainly won't be any problems at the DEN end, or are you saying there might be difficulties reaching LGW?

DEN has one of the most advanced runway layouts in the world - currently 6, with room for 12.

"Runway 16R/34L - Denver's much publicised recent addition - is the longest commercial runway in North America. At 16,000ft long and 200ft wide, it is able to accommodate the new generation of massive planes, including the Airbus A380.

The sixth runway project was part of DIA's original master plan to provide a balanced airfield operation. This $166 million north / south runway allows larger airplanes and planes with heavier loads or longer trans-oceanic distances to safely take off and land in Denver's high-altitude environment. "

(from airport technology.com)

Still trying to work out how such a facility can be built for $166m, compared to the billions quoted for STN & BHX. I know there is a lot of prairie out there, but we are talking about 20x less cost.
