It is done easily with rear seat seat belts. Actual setup depends on your tripod configuration. Also make sure to lock the autofocus, as some cameras tend to 'hunt' the focus in low contrast lighting.
For the note, I simply mounted my camera on the left side wheel step (C172) with nylon socks, securing it with steel wire and it worked out just fine
