Sorry but don't even think about it...the days of single white females being able to fly in PNG are long gone.
Heather Mitchel was a friend of mine...a Pacific Helicopters pilot who was leaving PNG. When she advertised her car a couple of locals turned up and showed interest so she went with them while they test drove it...they took her up Hospital Hill, raped her and then cut her into pieces.
Another dear friend was a teacher in Goroka and was raped while house sitting a house in the Goroka Teachers College compound for friends. The haus meri (local house keeper) unlocked the escape hatch in the floor (most houses have escape hatches in case of fire so you can get out quickly without having to unlock the 'rape gates' that section the house into living area and 'secure' sleeping area) so her male wantok could get in. She awoke to find a local over her stabbing her with a screw driver...she got out from under him by firing a flare from a bedside flare gun (remember the revolver type we used to give our wives guys?) which hit him in the face. A few days later one of the security gaurds turns up to work with a burned face....when the police are called his wantoks (clansmen) tell the police if he is arrested they will return and rape every women in the place....so the police walked away and did nothing. Some little time later she started suffering a vaginal discharge which was diagnosed as Syphilis...she was an older lady and was celebate...she also had internal damage from having something like a wooden baton shoved up her...she had blocked all that out. A wonderfull friendly women who was just ruined mentally.
The American Peace Corps stopped sending females to PNG in 1995....which was a real shame
..many of us went out with them...We laughed ourselves sick when they told us about the 'Talair Pilot brief' they recieved prior to leaving the US
They stopped sending girls because of the rape of one of their number in Hoskins.
Then there was the women who was car jacked in Moresby and caught up in her seatbelt as they drove away....she was dragged to her death.
I could go on about the 6 or 8 male friends who were shot dead, stabbed, axed etc....not all killed, a few were...but all carrying the scars for life.
