"In order to provide such basic support as food, navigation and weather reporting, Nurmi is assembling a 16-member team this time. While he and Thomas fly a large, turbo-powered helicopter ---- possibly an AS350 Eurocopter, if Nurmi decides to buy one ---- most of the other team members will travel in a DC3 plane that will follow them.

One of those other members, however, will accompany Nurmi and Thomas on the helicopter. He is Alex Landeros of Lake Elsinore, another one of Nurmi's former students.

"John and I are not instrument-rated," Nurmi said. "We need a guy who can handle the helicopter when we are in the clouds.""

"In August, pilots Johan Nurmi and John Thomas will leave LAX in a Bell 430 helicopter with the goal of being the fastest to circle the globe in a helicopter."

I must admit to being a little bit concerned about the 'flying in clouds' statement!!!!
