My understanding too Direct.
The yen men were the CA's senor enough to do nothing but Japan flights because of the bulk $$$$ allowances.
When there they did the department store food section circuit eating the finger food (samples) always out on offer, thereby saving all allowances.
Hence the name Yen Men.
