The book does state that the tropspheric conditions were "just right" for such a feat to be achieved but it's all a bit beyond me that quantum athmospherics stuff.
If anyone is interested I will scan and post the descriptions of the narrowing of the performance envelope at such heights. All seems a bit knife edge for my liking
