CI's and the AEF's

Can I throw in a mercenary question or two?
I've been helping as a CI at a local ATC Sqn for about a year now - mainly mid week evenings (PoF, Airmanship I/II, Ops Flying) - and am finally CRB'ed after only 12 months....! I'm also working towards my PPL(A).
Q1. Does the VT contract permit CI's to get an occasional trip aloft ?
Q2. Are the AEF instructors all ex-Regular RAF pilots or is it possible to convert a PPL(A) to something the RAFR would recognise ?
