Light A/C crashes on road

Plane crashes on road
October 29, 2005 - 4:01PM

A LIGHT aircraft has flipped upside down on a road on the outskirts of Melbourne trapping two people inside.

It is unclear what caused it to crash on Stuart Road, Tyabb, near Western Port Bay, but the road is near the Tyabb Airfield.

Ambulance crews arrived shortly before 3pm today and a spokesman said the condition of the two people in it was unknown.

Senior Constable Carla Coslovich said the aircraft was a single engine plane.

"I don't know whether it's missed the airstrip or if it's just had some other problems but it is close to the Tyabb Airfield," she said.

Fire and rescue crews were at the scene, she said.

No information was available from Tyabb Airfield.

The crash has caused traffic delays on Stuart Road and the intersecting Jones Road.
