A parody of the true tragedy of the lady on her first parachute jump who landed on a rotating helicopter at Thruxton?
Ha ha, excellent... do you have a video of that?
There was no video of the Thruxton tragedy, but I do have a clear memory of reading the accounts of people who watched in horror as she floated towards the hovering helicopter but could do nothing to prevent the accident, of reading (with accompanying photographs) how what remained of the poor girl's body was scattered in small pieces over the airfield, of reading the pathologist's report of her horrific injuries and, most vividly of all, of advising her distraught parents as gently as possible against devoting their lives and modest savings to bringing a legal action when, even if negligence was proved, the damages recoverable for the loss of a non-dependent relative are fixed by Parliament at a very small sum - which was already being offered (without formal admission of liability) by the parachuting school's insurance company.
I didn't find any of it even remotely funny, but maybe that's just me.
I also remember being involved in the the legal aftermath of the Headcorn accident mentioned, a mid-air collision between a freefall skydiver and the jump aircraft returning to the airfield. That case had an additional dimension for me - the young woman who was killed was a barrister who represented young barristers' interests when I served as a member of the Bar Council and I knew her, although not well. I didn't find anything amusing about that accident either but, again, we're all different.
DBChopper Identifying irony clearly isn't your strong point.
