Just mulling it over in my mind, I counted the number of different taxes that are paid to the government within each and every airfare that we buy.

Off the top of my head I counted no fewer than twelve government taxes.

Now they want to add another. How can the industry survive under the weight of that much burochracy?

I thought the government wanted to streamline tax, not make it worse.

To make things worse, just putting a tax on air tickets makes a vast minority of people pay for Ansett. It is uncontionable to select a group of society to exude taxes from and exempt others. If the government wants to bail out unfortunate workers, and then have people who had nothing to do with it pay for it, then they should have everyone pay for it equally, rather than discriminating against air travellers.
