Jeremy Clarkson's got it right, although it took a helluva lot of space to say it.
Paraphrasing for him:
Australians are very choosy as to whom we allow in!
Unlike the U.K. and N.Z. - yes, it is easier for immigrants to get into N.Z. than Oz. They got our last boatload of REJECTS...remember? And Kiwi Land having its own version of Brixham, a little town named Wellington.
Sounds as though Mr Clarkson had a visa application rejected. However, considering his fear of snakes, spiders, and other outdoor creatures, and obviously suffering from an extremely thin skin, ("It's bad enough for a British person who's only there on holiday. Every time you walk into a pub, you get the same reaction.
"Backs to the wall everyone. There's a Pom in the bar," followed by: "Hide your wallet under the soap. He won't find it there."), he may be well advised to take a journey to the home of the "Poms of the Pacific" - with Air New Zealand, of course!
