Air NZ to cut 13 international flights a week
WELLINGTON, Jan 15 NZPA|Published:
Tuesday January 15, 8:23 PM

Terrorist attacks in the United States and Air New Zealand 's restructuring were behind the airline's decision to drop 13 international flights a week to Asia and America, according to one analyst.

Taking effect from March and April, Air NZ will decrease the number of long haul flights to both Honolulu and Los Angeles by two flights a week. It will also be reducing flights from Osaka, Taipei and Hong Kong.

Air NZ will also be increasing its service to Tokyo from five times a week to a daily service. Japan is Air NZ's second-biggest market after Australia.

Air NZ will also increase its services from Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch to Brisbane to cater for New Zealanders crossing the ditch for their mid-winter holiday. But they will be paying more to do so.

On Saturday Air NZ increased domestic and trans-Tasman economy fares by up to $150 in a battle to return to profitability. They were in addition to price increases in November of up to $100 for fares to Australia.

Air NZ's shares closed at 31c.
