I am glad I have done it. It was offered to me by my present employer at the time. No longer doing it and in the offshore game now.
There is no doubt it elevates your skills, knowledge and understanding and makes you think a lot more about your flying. I have done BFR's for pilots with gazillions of hours, yet you ask them about retreating blade stall for example and they have no idea of the causes, symptoms, and/or correct recovery action...it makes you wonder.
There is also no doubt that abinitio instructing can be a risky and unexpected business, every instructor has had close calls that makes them also wonder why they do it....
