Hmmm.....personally I would much prefer to be taught my ATPL's by a specialied groundschool that boasts the most successful pass rates in Europe, rather than have lots of classroom time on an integrated course that doesn't help you as much.
I would be interested to hear who teaches the groundschool at OAT, I would guess it is local instructors, in which case the quality of teaching would not be top notch anyway. It's easy to compare course stats for how much lesson time etc, I would look at the results because thats what matters!! Course averages for CTC cadets are usually around 90%
CTC are meant to be going integrated, I hope for the cadets sake they keep using Bristol groundschool they are the dogs

As for your training captain friend, I would ask him to sit some mock ATPL exams and see how well he does, then ask him again how important differences in teaching ATPLs are in being a senior captain
