Busiest Month Ever at BHX !
August proved to be Birmingham International Airport's (BIA) busiest
month ever recorded, with some 1,049,003 using the UK's 5th largest
Airport, an increase of 8.5% on the same month last year.
Furthermore, on Friday 12th August the Airport recorded its busiest
day ever, with 38,878 passengers travelling through in 24hrs.
Scheduled traffic grew by 25.2% overall with passenger numbers
increasing on non-EU flights which grew by 37.8%, on Transatlantic
services which were up +26.7%, as well as on EU flights which rose by
26.2% and on flights to Asia which increased by 20.6%.
Growth was also achieved on a number of scheduled routes, including
Larnaca (+149.9%), Milan (+120.7%), Prague (+115.4%), Amsterdam
(+26.5%), Copenhagen (+26.3%), Edinburgh (+15.3%) and Malta (+13.8%).
Overall, charter passenger numbers fell by 12.2%, reflecting a wider
trend across the charter market. However, despite the overall
decrease, a number of countries did experience passenger growth from
Birmingham, including Bulgaria (+121%), Mexico (+38.1%), Turkey
(+14.4%), Austria (+13.1%) and Cyprus (+12.8%).
Scheduled traffic accounted for 63.9% of the total August figure
while charter passengers made up the remaining 36.1%.
