Lantau is fine but you are isolated from the buzz of downtown Hong Kong. You can not drive a private car from Disco Bay to Chek Lap Kok but there is a bus service and also lantau Taxis. You can take a ferry ride across the harbour to Hong Kong Central or catch the Airport Express train or busses from the airport. Lantau is a nice place. Suggest you check it out before you make a commitment.
