G'day Alan!
Swotting up are we? Well besides engines you can find weights, airframe hours and a lot more for free.
The CAA gives help to impending interviewees on their G-INFO site but there is a trick. You need to know how the CAA name aircraft and the proper name of the airline. Failure to get it right on either or both counts leads to no information being found!
Find the GINFO file on
www.caa.co.uk and in the aircraft type or name box just type * for a wildcard. In the registered owner box type Virgin Atlantic Airways Ltd, and hit search. All 32 Virgin aircraft appear on a list with links to their histories.
You get quite a bit of info but I believe the 13 744's are all CF6-80C2B1F's, the 9 small 340's are a mixture of CFM56-5C's 2's and 4's and the biggies RR Trent 556-61's.
No balloons, Concordes, space shuttles, jump jets
Good Luck!!
