I am a European too, and was hired for the 777 (I have 4000+ hrs on commercial jet).
It is absolutely true that the verbal reasoning is THE most difficult thing in the selection process, although I believe most is decided on the interview (just a personal judgement).
But hey, why on earth wouldn't you just try?
