Post Aerolineas Argentinas crew recruitment qualifications

Just looking through CAT (The Journal for Civil Aviation Training) issue 3/2005 that has an airline training profile for Aerolineas Argentinas, based on an interview with Capitan Daniel Burlas, Director of Flight Operations at Aerolineas Argentinas.

Pilot Selection

Company policy dictates that there is no ab initio flying training conducted or sponsored by the company. As a rule only Argentine nationals aged 21 or over are considered for employment as pilots; occasionally, however, non-nationals have been employed on contract. The minimum experience and qualification level is 900 flight hours and a CPL/IR; at the time of writing there is no shortage of applicants who meet this criteria.

The entire pilot selection process takes place in Buenos Aires. During the pre-selection interview candidates are are assessed for appearance, aviation experience and general background suitability. A candidate with a considerable number of flight hours is not necessarily accepted for employment-- it would very much depend on how the hours were achieved. The next stage is a written examination on aeronautical subjects followed by a medical and then a spoken English practical examination. The final stage is an observed session in a generic-jet trainer. Entry is only considered for appointment as a first officer; direct entry as a captain is not acceptable due to the strict company seniority system in force.
