Ryan Air Type Rating

I have searched the site for the answer to this, but have been unable to do so.
Ryan air stipulate that to join them through the SSTR you have to apply to the two companies which run them (GECAT and SAS I believe ) Both charge in excess of £20,000 and do not include accomodation.
Now I assume that to get a type rating you have to reach an acceptable standard set by the countires Air authority ( Correct my if I'm wrong as i'm not sure ). And that in Europe and USA these standards will almost be identical ( again if im wrong....)
Well my point is, why can't you go to the USA and obtain a 737NG rating for less then half that quoted price and then apply for a job with Ryan Air. Surely the training and standards will be the same
So can someone tell me why SAS and GECAT are the only acceptable schools for Ryan Air?
