You may wish to visit the website of our equivalent to the FAA, the Civil Aviation Safety Authority. I'm sure I speak for all pilots, planks and helos, when I say that some dealings with CASA are less than encouraging.
Visit their website at
www.casa.gov.au and you'll be able to guage some of the potential obstacles you'll face, especially with regard to licences. ATPL in the US is far easier to obtain than here so you may have to do some more exams before you'll get a licence endorsed. (Other pilots may be able to shed more light on this for your benefit).
The RW market here has come a long LONG way in the last decade and a half, but it's always been my assumption that it was easier to get work in the US! Perhaps I'm wrong.
