Hong Kong and United States government negotiators will meet next week for the first time since last July to discuss a new air services agreement covering passenger and cargo flights across the Pacific.
At the centre of the discussions is a codeshare deal between Cathay Pacific Airways and American Airlines that could boost the number of US destinations open to Hong Kong's de facto flag carrier from eight to 40. Cathay would not comment on the latest talks, but previously it said the codeshare would add an extra 600,000 passengers a year to its trans-Pacific services. Possible new destinations include Dallas-Fort Worth, Houston, San Diego, Denver, Detroit, New Orleans, Las Vegas and St Louis.
