software failure in particular is hard to put into a numbers game
Software, something many people in the MoD would even struggle to spell, never mind understand the associated complex issues, and that's not even considering the issues of safety related software, or complex electronic hardware.

Consider statements such as "we haven't got time to worry about the software, we're too busy trying to get the hardware running".

Major projects about to enter service with no proper software support arrangements, oh yes and a new 00-56 which requires a greater level of competence to understand and apply (from both parties). Not a criticism of new standard by the way, just an observation, and a concern for an organisation with very little in the way of competence in this area. Give the aviation functional safety office a call and ask to speak to their software specialist.
