Fact is, many of the S/O's are still new to the company and are (justifiably) a little nervous about taking direct action. Many are still under probation and we all know that the management would just love to make an example of someone to put the !!!!z up them and make them toe the line. So, although they have much to gain, they also have alot to lose. Therefore, it's up to the more senior guys to carry the load a little on this one. Many are of the opinion it is the senior guys who dropped the ball in the first place. Now, before I get many nasty comments about having a gun placed to their head (which many did in years gone by), lets just face the reality. The senior guys are the ones with the power to stand up to a management who are intent on maximising their OWN profits and don't give a **** about anyone else. Remember, they are playing for their OWN survival - look at the mess they have created for the company.
Just imagine the increase in profits through better pilot utilisation and reduced cancellation of flights if we were one big happy family. I'm afraid that a few years of absolute penny pinching is finally catching up with the (mis)management types.
I leave it to the senior guys (especially the Captains) to set the examples and lead the way over the next few months.
