Coventry (CVT) happenings

I hope it is ok to start a CVT thread, as what is going on here is not always directly related to TOM.

On the good side:

TOM just announced 1m pax - although they are keeping this very quiet at the moment locally.
Support for the airport growing amongst a range of individuals, small and large businesses. Support now includes many people living in same areas where majority of complaints have come from, and messages of support from as far away as California, Japan, Spain and the Netherlands.
Flights to BCN launched on 10th Feb.

Not so good:

The half-wits at Warwick District Council have just voted to refuse the airport's offer of a Section 106 agreement - something the airport first offered to produce back in August. http://tinyurl.com/3w49j

Warwick District Council now estimate airport inquiry will cost their taxpayers upto £1m (today's Leamington Courier).

Possibly good:

"The leader of the council says the legal costs are "worrying" and he concedes that there may come a point where the costs become too great to continue fighting the airports plans"

If only they had entered negotiations earlier, instead of being completely intransigent, then they could have saved everyone a great deal of bother, and none of these ridiculous costs would have been necessary.

Rugby Borough Council also have a certain amount of explaining to do, as they too are spending a fortune on legal fees to be present here, yet very few of their residents are actually affected.

I hope this is a wake up call to the constituents of Warwick & Leamington, and of Rugby & Kenilworth, who need to start demanding a better quality of debate from the current gaggle of candidates they have, all of whom are on record as being in support of WDC's actions.
