Worry not! Elvington is safe.

I know a bloke who knows the owner of the runway, apron and surrounding land.

When Elvington was sold by the MOD it wasn't allowed to be sold for development or storage (Ford were allegedly interested), since in the years during MOD ownership leisure pursuits on the airfield thrived.

Elvington Estates owns the airfield and Elvington Events runs and organises what happens on it.

I've been model flying at Elvington for years and have done a couple of track days there too. There's also land yachting, motorbike racing, drag racing an annual airshow, amongst others.

I think the only people who can justifiably reject to aeroplane activity near Elvington are those that lived there before it was built; i.e. 1940 something!

I can't see it being used as a DC10 graveyard or paint spray facility, since the open space is needed for the aforementioned, and there is nothing there in the way of hangers for painting aircraft.

Incidentally, the Yorkshire Air Museum is a separate entity, with its own hangerage for exhibits. Great food in the NAAFI, by the way!

Rumour has it that F1 teams have used it for testing as it's nice and smooth, but I think noise complaints have stopped that now too.
