With a small number of exceptions, the aircraft hire market in France is not the same as it is in the UK. Light aircraft available for hire tend to be owned by Aeroclubs which will require you to be a member before you can hire. The annual fee may put you off, although in many cases, accommodations can be reached.
It is still relatively unusual in France for aircraft to be borrowed from clubs for extended flights away - particularly by johnny-come-lately new members. It is more common for aircraft to be hired for a few hours for a "ballade" to another nearby airfield for coffee, a chat and a smoke.
None of these things are insurmountable objects to hiring, but it is worth being aware of the predominant culture before plunging in.
A list of all Aeroclubs in France can be found on the FNA website, the organisation to which they themselves belong.
