Like you,I started my flying career as Cabin Crew back in 1986.I worked for a UK Charter Airline called Britannia and got the flying bug through talking to some of the Girls, some of whom had boyfriends/hubbies learning to fly. I spent the next 18 months fitting in flying lessons in between night Athens/Corfu/you name it and working 3 nights a week in a pub to save up the money.I also talked to the Pilots themselves gaining not only advice but encouragment and all important contacts. Many letters were also sent to Britannia's own Chief Pilot who kept saying no...........until one day he called and invited me to an interview for a cadet sponsorship course which was to start in 2 weeks. 2 days after the phone call,i'd been accepted and a gruelling but rewarding 13 month ab initio course followed.I started flying in 1990 and now,14 years later i've flown B737's,B757's and B777's. I've been a captain now for around 3 years. If I was to look back then and think for just one minute that i;d be doing this now i'd never have imagined it in a million years. The big factor in wether you succeed is not only luck, and you will need that for sure, but your own determination. If you want this badly enough, you will achieve it but you must be prepared to put in the hard work now.Pm me if I can offer any specific advice but otherwise I wish you all the best in your future career plans.
p.s Make the most of chatting up the girls now cos' they ain't going to be interested when you're a 'FLIGHT DECK' !
