use STODs as 'core' data, incompatible with most AFM data
.. not too sure where the problem is here .. one just converts the EOL slope to a few well placed dummy obstacles and away the program using discrete obstacles goes ... the only trick is using well-conditioned dummy obstacles so that the program doesn't do anything too stupid.
