I joined the Royal Marines in 1955, and have always been happy that we are part of the Navy. You seem to think otherwise, but I'm sure most Booties feel the same way. We enjoy keeping you in order, and the food is much better at sea. I must admit to being seriously p****d off when 3 Commando Brigade Air Squadron Royal Marines became 847 NAS, with a squadron crest that has nothing 'Royal Marines' about it. There again, I felt the same way when a Commando Unit changed from having 5 Troops to 3 Companies, and the rank of QMS became WOII, and .........
However, I've never seen so much back biting over the simple fact that the Royal Marines are organising a Squadron reunion to mark the occasion of losing their 8 Gazelles, without replacement, and have invited anyone who served in 847 NAS, or what was the 3 Commando Brigade Air Squadron, to join them. That way we will recognise old oppos, and not spend the time trying to guess, 'Who, is that old f**t'.
