CAA ATPL (Airbus) -> FAA PPL/IR (SE) - HOW?

A friend who is a working airline pilot (Captain) with 5k+ hours wants to fly an N-reg TB20, single engine and VP prop.

He also has a standalone FAA PPL but it has "expired" i.e. he is past the BFR date.

Basically he needs to get an FAA IR.

It has been suggested that the simplest way may be a conversion to an FAA ATPL.

Can anyone suggest the simplest way to do this?

Thank you in advance for any feedback.
