And there is the "Safety" issue. John "J'adore" Prescott et al have banged on about safety being the first, secon and third priority. The regulator will be separated from NATS (I thought it was already) in order to regulate more effectively etc etc. Well then, how come that I hear a rumour, from a pretty good source, that there is a move afoot to de-regulate the colleges? As I understand it the colleges will be free to do their own thing and the first involvement of SRG will be at first unit validation point. A bit late in the day to point out shortcomings in the training!

Of course no professional trainer would bow to commercial pressures to get students through courses now would they? Indeed, do the professional trainers even need to be ATCOs? Any half decent college lecturer could do the job with a bit of specialised reading, after all a lecture is defined as the process of transferring the contents of the lecturer's notebook to the student's notebook without passing through the brains of either.

When I retire I shall travel exclusively by road, even if it is anti-social.
