Grrr Operation Smoke Screen

MAS is in Crisis Management Mode now.A big smoke screen is being carried out to dupe the Joe Public & the shareholders, that they are running a tight ship.To emphasise that fact, they rewarded themselves with spanking brand new Beemers & Mercs (talk about bling bling )

Guess what folks?Even better news is that these guys are retiring soon. A legacy of mismanagement will be passed on (this is MAS SOP's ) & whoever carries the can will have a bigger headache as they will have to put the worms back into the can!

Admitedly, MAS has never had a flight cancellation.Even if they did, it's for 'strategically commercial' reasons (whatever that means ) Flights are retimed to find the pilots to fly them or even better upgrade the flights to bigger equipment (even if that means you operate at a loss ) Pilots are being denied the leave that is due to them (unless you hit max hours ), & promotions are frozen or classes being deferred. This is a classic Crisis Management! MBA students (God knows they have too many in MAS management) should make this a case study. Yeah right!

The management's mantra of "Don't worry 200 cadets are coming" is just a convenient excuse to the shareholders. What they don't know is the fact that it takes a lot of time (try 10 years) & investment (millions of ringgit) to replace a single Captain or senior First Officers. Well done MAS, you certainly made us realise that Malaysia Boleh! As it is,MAS pilots are being courted to man fleets of airliners around the world.

To the cadets, I won't hold my breath for a fast promotion, let alone a command position. MAS promotions are strictly seniority based (as with most airlines).Which means first in, first up.As it is, you are looking at about a minimum of 600 co pilots in the system, so pick a number & wait for your turn.In other words....get through your cadetship & your license before worrying about your command prospects

To make matters worse, the word around town is that the bosses are looking to hire cheap expat pilots to plug the manpower leak. But they are not the only airlines inthe world looking for pilots......or hoping for a major to go bust.

Well done MAS (or in this case the mismanagers of MAS)
