Sad news
Can't say I actally knew him, but I do have a good word for him, as I believe it was him who signed one of the 'landaway' signature blocks for my solo X country at Cardiff in 1996!
And that was despite some pretty atrocious RT in the circuit, due to deconflicting with a C130 that was landing at St Athan! He probably wished he hadn't signed it after I accepted a departure with an early turn to avoid the chimneys that didn't look very pretty!
