Comair made a operating profit, due to the strong rand the 737-400's were written down in the books, hence the nett balance sheet loss. They still paid a dividend to shareholders!
There is a demand on all routes for premium and low cost product (tickets), same as people drive expensive and cheap cars on the same roads.
