A rather crotchety acquaintance of mine had the misfortune to bend his helicopter a couple of years ago, whilst doing a little pre-check ride practicing for his 135 ride. At the bottom of a full touch-down auto he rolled his machine over.
When the FAA arrived to complete the investigation, which in this instance involved little other than ensuring the spelling was correct, the unfortunate pilot told them that it was a doubly bad day for him, for in addition to wrecking his machine, it had occurred on his
79th birthday.
He is still flying today - God only knows how old he is now!
