stagger, it’s not the cockpit design that’s flawed, it’s the design of the human who uses the information.
Modern flight deck displays may be far from perfect, but apparently suffice for the tasks of flying the aircraft and managing the systems. On the other hand, many accidents indicate that there are weaknesses in the performance of the crew in the modern, complex environment; particularly in assessing the situation. There may be some failure to ‘see’ information, but more often there are failures to comprehend its meaning and apply the information appropriately.
“Getting the right information to a pilot is critically important,” is stating the blindingly obvious! Sorry, pun intended!!
Similarly “… the right information stimulating the correct action” would of more value to the industry if the researchers could tell us what is the right information and what is the correct action.
