If you can multiply/divide by 3 and 5 in your head then you are "smart/sharp" enough to be a pilot. Honestly, piloting doesn't take any special brain power.
As far as fixed wing vs rotary, fixed wing is cheaper to do and you will probably find it easier to get your first job. That shouldn't be the deciding factor though, ask yourself, do I want to fly helicopters or aeroplanes? Do what you WANT to do and then deal with how you're going to do it. Don't just do what you think will be easiest.
