Perhaps James Robertson Justice (fine actor IMHO) gave the CO his trademark,"YOU BLITHERING IDIOT!"
JRJ was a very accomplished falconer and I imagine his request for an avoid was related to that activity, rather than to any luvvie's fit. His falconer's daughter now runs the National Birds of Prey Centre, which, incidentally, has its own LF avoidance area. His legacy to military low flying lives on!
