Brief starts approx 100 nm fm TOPD, (depending on the sector length) having obtained destination ATIS, alternate VOLMET/ATIS and then proceed as follows:
Aircraft condition (snags),
Destination Notams,
Alternate notams-if applicable,
Holding time available,
Descent procedure i.e. VNAV/VS/LVL CHG, SPD restrictions etc,
Approach chart brief, IN LOGICAL SEQUENCE,
Freq, Inb courses, OM chk alt, DA/MDA, artprt elev, MSA,
Intermediate approach alt,
Final Approach fix/point,
Glide path angle if other than standard, ROD approx,
MAPT,
Minimums vs Actual wx conditions = approach ban,
Circling minimums,
RWY Light system to be expected when visual etc,
Missed approach procedure- Flap 15 LNAV/HDG SEL/HEIGHT/RESTRICTIONS/Max Cont Thrust during G/A, etc,
Anti icing-segment considerations,
Alternate route/ arrival-delegate tasks,
Speeds, VREF, min app spd, clean spd,
Auto brake,
A/P A/T procedure,
Runway length beyond G/S and conditions/special procedures,
After landing i.e. full rev thrust/idle,
Auto brake status/requirement,
APRT Routing, Stand No,
Anything that has to be mentioned, if unsure discus with PIC/FO,
Seems like along task, however it takes about 10 minutes to set up and brief, during which time hand over control to the PNF so you can concentrate on setting up the arrival and briefing D whole sequence of events. If the arrival changes during the arrival segment then delegate to the PNF to set up the approach and the brief as applicable,(some times it happens, late rwy change),
Adhere to SOP’s and apply CRM. Don’t be afraid to ask/seek help.
Anyone care to comment, I am open to any constructive critic.
Hope this helps.
