Carb heat assist
He mentioned that it's a Beta II. I'm not sure if all, but most Beta IIs have carb heat assist. When ever the collective is lowered the carb heat assist will automatically add carb heat. This could be one reason that he is pulling a different MP setting in the same hover and just not noticing the amount of carb heat applied.
